Amirah

Amirah Al-Shuruq, from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been a professional Cairo-style dancer for over 5 years, performing for international audiences at restaurants, weddings, parties and cultural events across the country. She has won multiple awards at regional and national belly dance competitions. She graduated from the School for Creative and Performing Arts with a Major in Dance and Minor in Visual Art, and continued to study dance at University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.

She took her first belly dance class in 2009 and has continued her study of Arab and Middle Eastern dances by taking intense workshops with master instructors all over the United States. Amirah traveled to Egypt in 2015 and 2017 to take private lessons with Cairo dance stars, learn about the culture, and practice speaking Arabic. She even had the chance to dance on stage next to Saad el Soghayar at the Semiramis Hotel in Cairo! Amirah claims to be Nagwa Fouad’s biggest fan, but her other strong influences are Golden-Era Egyptian dancers; Samia Gamal, Naima Akef, Naemet Mokhtar, Kitty Fotsaty, Soheir Zaki, and Mona Said.
